UZH Strategic Project: Next Generation Computing

In a world of constant digital evolution, the University of Zurich is committed to providing its community with a powerful, secure, and adaptable computing infrastructure. Our Next Generation Computing project is our answer to this challenge, ensuring UZH provides its colleagues with the tools they need to research, teach and innovate.

We are building a future-proof digital ecosystem centered on four key pillars:

  • Innovating in the Classroom
We are empowering educators and students with scalable, user-friendly computing platforms. This provides direct, hands-on access to cutting-edge technologies and the latest AI applications, fostering a dynamic and modern learning environment.
  • Secure Computing for Sensitive Research
We provide a robust and secure infrastructure that meets the highest data protection standards. Our researchers can conduct studies with sensitive data, confident that participant privacy and data integrity are rigorously safeguarded.
  • High-Performance Computing for Breakthroughs
To eliminate resource constraints and accelerate discovery, we are significantly expanding our high-performance computing (HPC) capabilities. A primary focus is on increasing GPU resources, allowing researchers to tackle complex problems and push the boundaries of innovation.
  • Harnessing the Power of Generative AI
Generative AI is transforming academia. We are proactively exploring how to integrate this powerful technology into daily research and teaching at UZH in practical, ethical, and impactful ways, turning a revolutionary tool into an everyday asset.

A Collaborative Vision Developed in close collaboration with stakeholders across the university, these solutions are tailored to meet real-world needs and solidify UZH's leading role in a competitive academic landscape.
